WHAT THE
LIBRARIANS ARE SAYING ABOUT HARLYNNE GEISLER:
Harlynne Geisler is the
definition of a professional storyteller. She thoroughly researches the sources of
her stories so that you know that you will be hearing the authentic tale. Her repertoire
is astounding, and she will surely fit the story to your group.
Harlynne tells
stories to children, young adults, adults, and seniors. She will make you laugh,
cry, wonder, and muse. Everyone in your audience will be reached by the magic of
Harlynne's voice telling tales and will long remember the images evoked by Harlynne.
Report Card: A with honors. Dr. Caroline Feller Bauer, author of New Handbook
for Storytellers
Harlynne Geisler performed "Gross
and Gory Stories" at the Pomona Public Library for young adults, ages twelve
and up. She told a varied group of ghostly and "deliciously gruesome" tales.
I was pleased that she had selected stories from well-known folktale anthologies
that can be found in most public libraries.
Her program was superb. Her delivery
was dramatic, but not overdone. She had a great rapport with the teenagers, a sometimes
difficult audience. The kids were glued to their seats for the full hour.
As
the librarian who schedules the performers, it is almost as important to me that
the performers be easy to work with as it is for them to be talented. Harlynne was
a pleasure to work with. She tailored her program to our audience and needs. She
promptly sent her press release biography, and she even printed up an attractive
flier which we reproduced and distributed. She arrived with plenty of time to spare
before the performance. It was clear that it really mattered to her that her stories
be enjoyed.
We fully enjoyed Harlynne Geisler's performance and will definitely
schedule her for a return performance! M. R., Supervisor of Youth Services
Two Thumbs Up!! plus seven toes, two raised eyebrows & one BIG smile! Thanks
so much for making the sleepover in our library such a special treat and for sharing
the wonder, the beauty, and the magic that stories bring to our hearts, minds, and
imaginations. C. N., Coordinator, Children's Services, Oceanside Public Library
We really enjoyed your Holiday Stories from Around the World.
You had a wonderful variety of tales, and the use of origami and string made your
stories particularly visual. I could tell by the active participation of the children
that you really had their attention. A. J., Branch Librarian, Encinitas Library
Like a pebble thrown into a calm pool, your stories ripple out into the minds of
your adult listeners and beyond. It was an enchanted evening. I had forgotten what
magic there is in the spell woven by a master storyteller--the scene setting, the
character description, the plot development, and, of course, the lessons and wisdom
of the climax--all of which you handle so well with gesture, tone, and voice. E.
S., Friends of the San Marcos Library
We have had nothing but rave reviews
on the storytelling workshop which you presented to our Pasadena Public Library branch
and children's librarians and the Pasadena Unified School Library coordinators. It
was a pleasure to hear you, and I am certain that all concerned feel as though the
time was well spent, and your message and enthusiastic style will be a springboard
for everyone. J. B.
I was very pleased with the size and age of the
group who attended your program. At the Himmel Branch, we have no trouble attracting
preschool children to our story times and other programs, but once children enter
school we seldom see them until they come in for reports and research in the upper
elementary grades. Your program was just the thing to bring in those in-between kids!
K. F., Children's Librarian, Arizona
Each story was a happy journey
that totally involved your audience. Many youngsters that were in the audience became
interested in the art and have kept the library busy locating stories for them. L.
R., Library Manager, San Diego County Library System
Thank you very much
for a very entertaining performance. The children, parents, and the staff thoroughly
enjoyed "Woof! Dog Tales from Around the World."
I especially enjoyed the folktale from South Africa. You made our summer a real success!
M. A., Children's Librarian, National City Public Library
