Dear Fellow Storytellers,
Jackie Torrence passed away today (12/1/04) of a fall which caused a heart attack.
For those of you who did not get to hear the beautiful tales of Jackie or you simply want to revisit it the site http://www.bookhive.org/zingertales/default.asp?storyid=10. Has four stories on video that you can listen to the tales of Jackie and other tellers. Take some time today and just sit back, close your eyes or open them, and enjoy the tales. Please share this with as many people as you can. Give some warmth to someone in honor of Jackie. (This message was from Kevin Cordi.)

The International Storytelling Center opened in Jonesborough. The Center represents a $10 million investment of grants, loans and private contributions and includes a massive library, large conference room, storytelling parlors, a gift shop, information center, education and interpretation center and a 100 seat theater (still under construction.) Jimmy Neil Smith, president of the International Storytelling Center, called the opening of the center "just the beginning." He called the center the "cornerstone of an effort to use the power of storytelling as a tool for positive change worldwide." Smith cited just a few of the goals: Improving the education of children through stories. Enhancing leadership and management. Creating more nurturing environments for health and healing. Promoting peace and understanding. Saving our history, traditions and culture.
There is a huge display in the foyer of photos and quotes from former featured storytellers at the National Festival.
